Washington is the odd one out: legal since 2012, one of the oldest markets in America, and still the only long-standing adult-use state that bars recreational home growing entirely. Only registered medical patients may cultivate.

For the patients who qualify, western Washington is a race against October rain, and the Puget Sound's cool, damp autumns make early-finishing, mold-resistant cuts close to mandatory outdoors. East of the Cascades, Spokane's drier continental summer is friendlier. Everyone else in the state is limited to comparing what they cannot yet plant; home-grow bills surface in Olympia most sessions and have not passed.
